Prepping for your procedure

Schedule downtime

Make sure to arrange time off from work or school to rest after your surgery. You’ll receive post-operative care instructions at your appointment, so be sure to ask any questions you may have.

Bring a companion

If you’re under 18, a parent or guardian must be present. If you’re receiving Sedation (Oral or IV), please have someone drive you to and from your appointment.

Dress comfortably

Wear loose, comfortable clothing and avoid wearing jewelry on the day of your procedure. Also avoid acrylic nails and nail polish, as these can interfere with our ability to monitor you safely during your visit.

Medication

Fill any prescribed medications ahead of time and take them as directed. On the day of surgery, take any necessary medications with minimal water.

Avoid substances

To ensure proper healing and anesthesia safety, all tobacco, vaping, alcohol, and recreational drugs (including marijuana) must be discontinued at least 1 week (7 days) before Oral surgery.

Preparing for Anesthesia

There are various types of Anesthesia used depending on your procedure and comfort level. Below are the different options that may be used for your surgery. Each type requires specific preparation, so please review these guidelines carefully.

Local Anesthesia: Eat a light meal several hours before your appointment. You may drive yourself if you’re only receiving Local Anesthesia.

Oral Sedation: Do not eat or drink for 6 hours before your surgery. Have someone drive you to and from the appointment.

Nitrous Oxide: Eat a light meal before your appointment, but you don’t need someone to drive you unless your procedure is more extensive.

IV Sedation: Do not eat or drink 6 hours prior to surgery. Someone must drive you home after the procedure.

By following these instructions, you’ll help ensure your surgery goes smoothly and your recovery process is as comfortable as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact us.
